Saving New Mexico’s Neediest Animals

Every year we complete 6,100 free spay/neuter surgeries and 15,400 free vaccinations for at-risk pets. Our Pet Amigos team goes door-to-door in underserved neighborhoods, offering resources to help families make the healthiest decisions for their pets. Thanks to your support, Pet Amigos is removing dogs from chains, offering scratching posts for cats, distributing leashes and collars for dogs, providing general wellness care and free spay/neuter surgeries, and most importantly, keeping loved pets in their homes.

Together, we will end animal suffering in northern New Mexico. Thank you for believing in our passion!

Are you ready to become a Humane Hero?

Humane Heroes was established to celebrate those who have included Española Humane in their estate plans. These Heroes have saved thousands of homeless pets and will make a lasting impact on the lives of animals in the Española area.

Every week 51 volunteers give 143 hours to animals.

Consider becoming a part of our volunteer team! Whether you have a little or a lot of time, we welcome your help. Many of the animals that come through our door have limited socialization or training. With a little love, attention and exercise, these animals become more adoptable. Plus spending time with them will put a smile on your face.

“I got involved when the Española Valley Humane Society was a grass roots organization. I have walked dogs, volunteered at the mobile adoptions, served on the board and worked on the auction committee.  The Espanola Valley Humane Society is in my will because I want to make sure their important work will continue to help animals in such a challenging community.”

“When we first moved to Santa Fe, the Española Valley Humane Society was having a fundraiser with Blondie at the Santa Fe Opera and it was the coolest event, hands down. After the concert I read more about the area they serve and the shelter became our cause.  I love the Pet Amigos outreach program and think the innovative way the humane society works within the community sets them apart from a lot of shelters.”

“The Española Valley Humane Society is run by an extraordinary woman, Bridget Lindquist. Her competence, creativity, humor, and love for animals are so impressive and inspiring to me. The shelter does so much for animals in a state that’s often pretty rough on our wonderful four-legged friends. Thank you, Bridget and your terrific staff!”
