Helping Paws
"Helping Paws" is a food pantry where locals receive free dog and cat food. All we ask is that their pets be altered.
Joey is a 3 year old Siamese male cat. Joey came to us with a letter written by his previous owner about what a wonderful, loving cat he is. Within a week of his stay with us he was literally dying of heartbreak and stress. He succumbed to a respiratory virus that left him at half his original weight. We provided him with analgesics, fluids and antibiotics 'round the clock and got him into foster care where he's now thriving on love.
Apple is a very sweet, 9 month old, 5 pound female chihuahua who was left in our drop box overnight. She has a serious case of demodex (the non-contagious type of mange). She just started the 6 week course of treatment in a wonderful foster home.
Prince is a puppy less than 2 pounds and about 4 weeks old. He was so flea infested that he didn't have enough blood to even stand. We transfused blood from a lovable 80lb pit bull named Logan from our kennels. Prince is now eating, barking and even running around in spurts. He's in foster care as we continue to monitor his improvement and get him totally out of the woods.
Notice how completely dependent "Make a Difference" is upon special needs foster care homes.
If you are interested in providing a forever home for Joey, Apple, Prince or our hero, Logan, please call the Espanola Valley Humane Society at 753-8662.
