Shelter Manager

Española Humane is searching for a Shelter Manager who is committed to life saving programs and services to join the dedicated team. The Shelter Manager is upbeat, enthusiastic with a strong desire to help people and pets. Empathetic communication skills and a strong desire to connect with community members, staff and volunteers are essential qualities of the candidate. Exceptionally strong interpersonal skills and the ability to forge effective relationships with a wide variety of people in a wide variety of circumstances will insure the Shelter Manager’s success.

The Shelter Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the shelters functions that include animal intake and receiving, adoptions, foster and rescue transfer, kennel cleaning and shelter animal care and health. The position manages three supervisors with a total staff of twelve. Key work partners are the Clinic Director and Shelter Medicine Veterinarian.

The position is exempt, full-time with excellent benefits and a flexible schedule, typically Monday – Friday.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a managerial role ideally completed through work at an animal nonprofit or rescue organization. Strong ability to serve as staff leader and mentor; excellent supervision and staff/volunteer support skills with proven ability to work with different work styles and to facilitate clear communication. Solid computer skills including familiarity with popular record keeping and word processing programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management software). Sound financial and data management skills, including clear financial responsibility and authority for managing similar-sized (or larger) budgets and ability to ensure accurate reporting.

Front Desk Receptionists

We are searching for upbeat, energetic Front Desk Receptionists to join our shelter and clinic teams. Espanola Humane is committed to partnering with our community to positively influence the lives of Espanola’s pets and Front Desk Receptionists are vital role in this mission. Applicants must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, be detail oriented, have good computer skills and possess an excellent work ethic. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a friendly and professional manner toward community members, co-workers and volunteers.

This position serves as a representative of Espanola Humane by closely interacting with clients both in person and over the phone; performs clerical duties such as processing invoices and payments, cash handling and provides miscellaneous support to team members in other departments. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, receptionist and telephone techniques required.

Candidates with animal and/or veterinary clinic experience are greatly valued and encouraged to apply. Applicants with customer service experience such as banking, hospitality and retail will be given priority.

Veterinary Technicians

Espanola Humane Society wants you to help save lives! We are searching for talented and dedicated Veterinary Technicians to join our medical team. Espanola Humane is committed to partnering with our community to positively influence the lives of Espanola’s pets and Veterinary Technicians are vital role in this mission. Applicants must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, be detail oriented and possess an excellent work ethic. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a friendly and professional manner toward community members, co-workers and volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Excellent customer service skills – ability and desire to interface with the public and volunteers
  • Superior time management skills with the ability to handle numerous responsibilities at once, working well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate with and offer assistance to wide variety of people
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. consistently to include moving sedated animals
  • Must possess excellent reflexes and be proficient at animal restraint for various procedures
  • Must be compassionate and organized
  • Candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude
  • Passion for animals, animal welfare and people
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are CVT, although a candidate with a minimum of 3 years technician experience will be considered
  • Bilingual highly desired

 

The clinic is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, offering a 4/10 schedule.

Join the Pet Amigos

Española Humane is transforming the lives of dogs and cats by honoring the love people have for their pets, closing the service gap that exists for people and pets in Espanola. Española Humane is seeking compassionate, outgoing, people and pet lovers to join the community outreach Pet Amigos team.

The program works on the ground in Española’s neighborhoods to remove barriers to access pet wellness resources, with a focus on spay/neuter. This data-driven program directly reaches underserved areas of the city through door-to-door outreach and building positive relationships with pet owners. Using these strategies, Pet Amigos is making strides towards a community that keeps pets in their homes, reduces pet overpopulation, and empowers pet owners with the resources and information they need to make the healthiest decisions for their pets.

Pet Amigos has the following positions available: Program Manager, Program Coordinator and Program Assistant. All positions require exceptionally strong interpersonal skills and the ability to forge effective relationships with a wide variety of people under a wide variety of circumstances. Demonstrating sensitivity to the community in which we serve, each team member also needs excellent time management skills, an ability to work independently with a solution-based approach. 

  • The Program Manager will have personnel management, reporting functionality and budget oversight experience.
  • The Program Coordinator will focus on neighborhood outreach, engaging pet owners, coordinating services and collecting program data.
  • The Program Assistant will support and grow the program operations by transporting pets for services from the community to the clinic and TNR (trap-neuter-return for feral cats).
  • The ideal candidate(s) are bilingual, people orientated, committed to life-saving efforts and have an ability to communicate with and offer assistance to wide variety of people.
